About Cataloger

Cataloger started with my mother's auction catalogs.

I'm Darien Nouri. My mother, Anne Nouri, is an auctioneer, and Cataloger grew out of tools I built for her team. It drafts auction lots from your photos, each with a title, a description, an estimate and, with research on, a research report with linked sources. You review and edit each draft, and nothing is approved until you approve it.

Why I built it

My mother, Anne Nouri, is an auctioneer. She wanted her team to spend less time on catalogs, but the tools she tried handled one item at a time. Each photo was uploaded on its own and each description written by hand, for hours.

Repetitive work frustrates me, and I like making slow processes fast. So I wrote scripts that drafted her team's descriptions in batches, and they saved the team hours right away.

Then I learned that other auctioneers had the same backlog, and I was encouraged to build for them too. Cataloger is the result.

Who I am

I'm a data scientist with a dual major in Data Science and Computer Science from NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. I'm pursuing a master's degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

I've worked in quantitative finance at Citadel, founded PropertizeAI, a real estate machine learning startup, and held research roles in predictive analytics and alternative data analysis.

The product

What Cataloger does today

You bring the photos. Cataloger drafts the lots, and you decide what goes in the catalog.

  • Upload in bulkAdd hundreds of photos at once, from your device, a zip file, Google Drive or Dropbox. iPhone HEIC photos are converted for you.
  • Organize PhotosPut the photos of each object, or of a pair or set sold together, into one group. Start from suggested groups (beta) or sort them by hand.
  • Drafted lotsOne credit drafts a title, a description and an estimate for one lot.
  • Research reportsResearch is on by default. With it on, each draft adds a report with linked sources to check the estimate against.
  • Review queueFilter lots by Needs Review, Approved and Needs Attention, and approve each one yourself.
  • ExportDownload CSV or Excel, or a file set up for LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, Wavebid, Auction Flex 360 for HiBid, Proxibid (beta), Shopify or Meta.

My goal is simple. You take the photos, Cataloger drafts the lots, and you stay the editor.

What it leaves to you: starting bids and reserves follow your own house rule, and condition notes stay off unless you switch them on.
